Is your Texas district SCOPE-compliant?
Texas’ Securing Children Online through Parental Empowerment (SCOPE) Act, also known as House Bill 18 (HB 18), is aimed at protecting students online. Article III of the act is specific to K-12 districts and put various requirements on schools.
The State will enforce the SCOPE Act with fines of $10,000 per violation.
The SCOPE Act (aka HB 18) focuses on:
- Empowering parents with additional rights and tools to keep their children safe online
- Providing enhanced online privacy protections for children
- Placing a duty on digital service providers to limit access to harmful online content
- Requiring the adoption of standards for permissible electronic devices and software applications used in school districts
Lightspeed is here to help with SCOPE compliance and other regulations.
